Additional 72,600 liters of synthetic gasoline produced with optimized catalyst in the DeCarTrans project
We successfully completed the third of seven test runs in the DeCarTrans (DCT) project funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) in Freiberg at the end of June.
We even exceeded our goal by producing approximately 72,600 liters of Methanol-to-Gasoline (MtG) fuel. A total of 82 tanks, known as IBCs, were filled and distributed to the respective project partners for further processing.
An optimized catalyst for commercial plants was used for the first time, which significantly increased the throughput of the plant while maintaining very high product quality. This strengthens the process safety of our patented METHAFUEL technology.
Our thanks go, among others, to the colleagues at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, who operated the large-scale test plant continuously in 24/7 mode. During plant operations in Freiberg, CAC alone analyzed over 1,200 liquid samples.
Further Processing of the Produced Fuel Quantity
The gasoline has been distributed to three project partners. There, the gasoline is blended to achieve the final qualities, ranging from SUPER 95 E10 to the motorsport fuel RON102 E0. At least 55% of the MtG gasoline serves as a base component in the final fuel.
The fuel has been, or is being, tested in real-world conditions, for example, by BMW Motorrad in racing. BMW is using this fuel in all four of its race bikes in the 2024 World Superbike Championship (WSBK) and is currently leading the manufacturer's standings ahead of Ducati. BMW’s top racer, Toprak Razgatlioglu, has won the last twelve races in a row and has very good prospects of winning the world championship title.
The quality of the gasoline was also demonstrated at the legendary 24-hour race at the Nürburgring with Toyota and BMW vehicles consistently achieving podium finishes.
Additional high-profile events, such as the ADAC Touring Car Junior Cup, vintage car races, and races with rally world champions Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdörfer at the Solitude racetrack near Stuttgart, have further showcased the fuel's quality. More events will follow in the coming months. Special thanks to our partners NORDOEL (www.nordoel.de), whose gasoline, based on our technology, is being used, and efuels Forum (www.efuels-forum.de), who organize these events.
DeCarTrans Project
The DeCarTrans research project brings together technology developers and fuel users. Within the scope of the project, 380,000 liters of gasoline (MTG gasoline based on CAC MethaFuel technology) are to be produced.
